We all love to go out for a good meal out. Almost every time we eat more than we should, but it’s worth it every time. The dessert is usually the best way to end of a great meal. Have you ever found yourself wondering how the restaurant gets their whipped cream so fluffy? You might think it is done by a big and expensive machine, but the answer is quite simple. It is done with a cream charger. So what are cheap cream chargers? A cream charger is a little steel cylinder, about the size of a small coffee flask. The cylinder is filled with nitrous oxide. You fill the cylinder with whipping cream and whenever you need whipped cream you simply pull the trigger and out comes whipped cream. Every time you pull the trigger, a small amount of nitrous oxide enters the cream, causing it to become fluffy.
The reason nitrous oxide is used is that it is fine enough to easily go in between the cream and does not cause oxidation while the cream is in the cylinder. The cream charger is easy to use and does not require a lot of effort to clean. Thus it makes it very convenient. And because it is small, it can be stored in a refrigerator.
The cylinder is unfortunately not refillable, but is completely recyclable wherever steel can be recycled. Even though it cannot be refilled it is still inexpensive and the nitrous oxide lasts long as it only requires a little bit to whip the cream. (more...)
